A Floral Mandala and Meditation
The human being is designed to express compassion; our bodies function optimallay when we are compassionate and we become happier. His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, points out that all people, everywhere, have the desire to avoid suffering and to be happy, just like you.
Compassion requires that we recognize and accept what is, in our situation, in other people and in ourselves. Often, the qualities that we find so hard to accept in others are the same ones we disown in ourselves.
For example, we all have fears which cause suffering in some way. Fear is the energy behind anger and negative behavior. Fear is the opposite of love and compassion, and it is part of life here on planet Earth. Accepting the existence of your own fears and forgiving yourself for not always acting out of love can lead to the forgiveness of fear-based behavior in others.
Keep a soft focus on the centerpoint of this mandala while breathing in and out through your heart center. Inhale and receive infinite compassion from the entire universe. Exhale and give infinite compassion: to yourself, then to your partner, to your mother and father, to your family, to your friends and enemies, to good leaders and especially to bad ones. Be compassionate with yourself if you find this difficult. Receive compassion. Give compassion. Be compassion.
